Today marks 6 years since I took the leap to start Marshall Admin Services, and what a journey it has been!
Looking back, it all began during a particularly mundane board meeting in my corporate career. I was heavily pregnant, and as I felt my unborn baby moving, it hit me like a bolt of lightning: this wasn’t the world for me. It was time for a change, a deep soul-search to figure out what I truly loved to do. I realised I thrive on helping people, I love being creative, and I get a buzz from using my IT skills to make life easier for others.
And just like that, Marshall Admin Services was born.
Starting out, I tackled tasks like sorting a mountain of unopened mail for a client - not exactly glamorous, but it was a foot in the door. That initial opportunity grew into managing her glamping business, from processing bookings and answering enquiries to organising events and rebranding the whole business.
Soon after, I began working with a business coach for midlife women - a collaboration that lasted six incredible years and taught me so much about client relationships, trust, and teamwork.
Along the way, I’ve also had the privilege of working with an amazing mix of clients: photographers, mentors, farmers, jewellers, authors, yoga instructors, ballet teachers… the list goes on!
Since 2019, my business has evolved in ways I could never have imagined. Beyond the skills I brought with me, I’ve learned the importance of faith in myself and my ideas.
In the corporate world, it’s easy to feel small or undervalued, but being your own boss flips the script entirely.
Now, I’m the one my clients look to for guidance and reassurance - a pivot that’s been both challenging and immensely rewarding.
Running a business comes with highs and lows. Some days I feel unstoppable; other days I barely want to look at my screen.
But showing up consistently has always paid off, leaving me feeling appreciated and fulfilled. I’ve also learned that not every client will be the perfect fit - and that’s okay.
Much like friendships, some connections just don’t click. But when I do find that perfect client fit, seeing their frustration lift and watching them gain clarity and confidence is the most incredible feeling in the world.
My goal for the future is simple: to continue growing Marshall Admin Services and to help the clients who need it most - the ones ready to throw their computers out of the window, thinking they can’t run their dream business.
I’ve seen too many people go for quick fixes such as Fiverr or People Per Hour, only to end up more confused and disheartened. My mission is to take those frustrations off their plate, guiding them patiently until they can fly high with confidence.
To everyone who has supported me over the last six years - clients, collaborators, friends, and family - thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Here’s to many more years of helping small businesses thrive and dreams take flight! ✨
